Automotive & Construction Polyurethane Sealant. One-component, moisture-curing, permanently elastic. Seals and bonds metal, glass, ceramic, timber and most plastics — locking out water, air, gas and dust.
Akfix P645 is a one-component, high-modulus polyurethane (PU) sealant that cures on contact with atmospheric moisture to form a tough, permanently elastic rubber seal. Engineered for vehicle body construction and demanding sheet-metal work, this fast-curing black PU sealant bonds and seals metal, ceramic, glass, timber and most plastics — sealing out water, air, gas and dust while absorbing vibration and structural movement.

Builds strength quickly so you can move the job along the same day.
The cured bead flexes with thermal expansion, vibration and load without cracking or splitting.
Non-sag consistency gives clean, sharp beads on vertical, sloped and overhead seams.
Sheet steel, galvanised iron, aluminium, stainless steel, copper, ceramics, glass, wood, concrete and most plastics — usually with no primer on clean metal.
Accepts most water-based and synthetic paint systems after skinning. Ideal for body shops and coated roofing.
The finished seam stays looking clean rather than collecting dust.
Withstands wash bays, road grit, foot traffic and weather without abrading through.
Reduces panel drumming and rattle in bodies, trailers, containers and ducting.
Built to handle Kenya’s sun, rain and coastal humidity year-round.
Reliable, consistent performance right through the shelf life.
Isocyanate-cured with low odour once skinned — safe for enclosed workshop use with normal ventilation.
Supplied direct from Shabbiri Hardware, Ongata Rongai and Tuala. Trade and carton pricing available.
Surfaces must be clean, dry, sound and free of dust, grease, oil, rust, loose paint, old sealant, wax and release agents. Wire-brush or abrade rust back to bright metal. Degrease with isopropyl alcohol, acetone or a proprietary cleaner and allow to flash off completely. Adhesion failure is almost always a surface-preparation failure.
Apply masking tape along both sides of the joint for a razor-sharp edge. Insert closed-cell polyethylene backer rod in deep joints so the sealant bonds to two faces only, never three. On porous substrates, prime where the substrate demands it and allow the primer to flash off.
Cut the cartridge thread cleanly. Screw on the supplied nozzle and cut the nozzle tip at a 45° angle to the required bead width — cut small first, you can always enlarge it. Load into a manual, pneumatic or electric caulking gun.
Hold the gun at roughly 45° and extrude with steady, continuous pressure, pushing the bead ahead of the nozzle so the sealant is forced into the joint rather than laid on top of it. Avoid trapping air. Work in one continuous pass per joint wherever possible.
Tool and smooth within 10–15 minutes, before skin forms. Use a spatula, jointing tool or soapy-water-dampened finger. Tooling is not cosmetic — it presses the sealant into full contact with both joint faces and is what makes the seal watertight.
Peel the tape away immediately after tooling, while the sealant is still wet. Pull at a shallow angle away from the bead.
Leave undisturbed. Cures at approximately 3 mm per 24 hours — a 6 mm bead needs about two days, a full 10 mm joint 5–7 days. Curing is faster in warm, humid conditions and slower in cold, dry conditions. Do not expose the fresh bead to water or wash the vehicle for at least 24 hours.
Once skinned and firm, the sealant can be over-painted with most water-based and synthetic paint systems. Always test paint compatibility on a small sample first — some alkyd paints dry slowly over elastic sealants. For best results, allow full cure before applying finish coats.
Remove uncured sealant immediately with acetone, white spirit or a PU cleaner. Clean tools before the sealant skins. Cured sealant can only be removed mechanically — by cutting, scraping or abrading.
Akfix P645 is a high-modulus polyurethane sealant used to seal and bond sheet metal in vehicle body construction, gutters, downpipes, ventilation ducts, metal roofing seams, steel structures and container or trailer bodies. It seals out water, air, gas and dust and damps vibration.
Yes. Once it has skinned, P645 can be over-painted with most water-based and synthetic paint systems, and it can be sanded once fully cured. Always test paint compatibility on a small area first.
It skins in roughly 40–60 minutes and cures at about 3 mm per 24 hours. A typical 5–6 mm bead is firm within a day or two; a full 10 mm joint reaches complete cure in 5–7 days. Warm, humid weather speeds it up.
Yes. It bonds excellently to mild steel, galvanised sheet, aluminium, stainless steel and copper on clean, dry, degreased surfaces — usually with no primer required.
Polyurethane sealant is paintable, far more abrasion- and tear-resistant, and bonds structurally to metal — which silicone does not. Silicone stays flexible in wet areas and is better for sanitary and glazing work, but it cannot be painted and offers weaker adhesion on metal.
Yes. Shabbiri Hardware stocks the 310ml Black (RAL 9005) cartridge, with White, Grey and Red available on order.
A 310ml cartridge gives roughly 15.8 metres at a 5 mm bead, 11 metres at 6 mm, or about 4 metres at a 10 mm bead.
No. P645 is highly water-resistant and suitable for permanently wet exterior exposure, but it is not designed for permanent immersion or aquarium use.
12 months from manufacture in unopened cartridges stored between +5°C and +25°C in a cool, dry place.
