Fibre cement boards: one board that does it all

Fibre cement boards are the smart, no-regrets choice for ceilings, walls, partitions and cladding in Kenya — fireproof, waterproof and termite-proof, yet light and quick to fix. Build once, build right, and buy them from Shabbiri Hardware, trusted by Kenyan builders since 1990.

If you want a finish that looks sharp and simply lasts, fibre cement board is hard to beat. It's made from cement and reinforcing fibres, so it brings the toughness of concrete to a light, flat sheet you can screw up in an afternoon. Fire, rain, damp, termites — the things that wreck timber and sag gypsum — barely register. Here's why builders across Kenya are switching to it, and exactly what we stock.

Why fibre cement boards are ideal for your project

Fireproof peace of mind

Packed with cement, fibre cement board is non-combustible. It won't feed a fire — a serious safety upgrade over timber and softboard, and exactly what you want in kitchens, ceilings and shared walls.

Water & damp won't touch it

It doesn't swell, warp or rot when it gets wet. Perfect for bathrooms, kitchens, external soffits and Kenya's long-rains — no more sagging ceilings.

Termites & pests give up

It's mineral, not wood — so termites, borers and rot have nothing to eat. The board that outlasts the building around it.

Takes the weather & the knocks

Strong impact resistance and stable in heat and heavy rain, so it won't crack or fade outdoors. Built for both the coast and the highlands.

Fast, clean, easy to fix

Light enough to carry and cut on site, then simply screw to timber or metal studs. Less labour, less mess, quicker finish — and it's fully paintable.

Fit-and-forget, low maintenance

Once it's up and painted, it just works. Wipe it clean, repaint when you feel like it — no annual repairs, no surprises.

Frequently asked questions

What are fibre cement boards used for?

They're one of the most versatile boards on the market — ceilings, internal partitions, external wall cladding, eaves and soffits, tile backing in bathrooms and kitchens, and decorative feature walls. Because they handle fire, water and pests, you can use one material almost everywhere in the build.

Are fibre cement boards better than gypsum or timber?

For anywhere that might get wet or hot, yes. Gypsum sags when damp and timber rots and burns — fibre cement does neither. It's fireproof, waterproof and termite-proof, so it lasts far longer with almost no maintenance. Gypsum still has its place for dry interior ceilings, but fibre cement is the tougher, longer-lasting choice.

Which thickness should I buy?

Use 4mm for eaves/soffit vents, 6mm V-groove for decorative ceilings and feature walls, 8mm for standard ceilings and light partitions, 9mm for partitions and tile backing, and 10mm for heavy-duty partitions, external cladding and wet areas. Not sure? WhatsApp us on 0745 554 008 and we'll match it to your job.

How much do fibre cement boards cost in Kenya?

At Shabbiri Hardware they start at KSH 950 for the 4mm eaves vent board and run KSH 3,900 (6mm deco), KSH 4,000 (8mm), KSH 4,340 (9mm) and KSH 4,872 (10mm) for full 1200 × 2400mm sheets. Buying for a whole project? Ask us for a trade quote.
