The Fundi FFL47-FRP is a four-section articulated multipurpose ladder with seven steps per section, giving 28 rungs in total. Its four heavy-duty hinges lock at every working position, so a single ladder covers the jobs that would otherwise need a step ladder, an extension ladder, a stairway ladder and a pair of trestles. What separates the FRP model from the standard aluminium FFL47 is the rail material: fibreglass reinforced polymer instead of aluminium. Fibreglass does not conduct electricity, which is why electrical contractors, solar PV installers, signage fitters and telecom crews across Nairobi specify it as standard.

Follow this sequence every time. It takes under a minute and it is what keeps a 150 kg-rated ladder behaving like a 150 kg-rated ladder.
Run your eye down both rails for cracks, splits or fibre bloom, check that all four hinges close fully and both pins on each hinge spring back, and confirm every rubber foot is present and not worn through. A ladder with a damaged rail is scrap, not a repair job.
Set the ladder on firm, level ground. Never on loose murram, wet tiles, a stack of blocks or a plank bridging a gap. On soft ground use a scaffold board under the feet to spread the load. Clear the area of trip hazards and, on a site road, cone it off.
At roughly 27 kg the FFL47-FRP is a two-person carry over any distance. Keep it folded until you reach the work position, then check overhead for power lines, eaves and cables before opening.
Squeeze the pins on the two outer hinges, rotate the outer sections down until the legs form an A, and let both hinges click home. Push down on the top of the ladder and watch for any hinge movement before you climb. Open the spreader fully.
Release all four hinges and straighten the sections into one line so every hinge locks at the straight position. Stand the ladder at the 1:4 angle — one metre out from the wall for every four metres of height, roughly 75°. Extend at least one metre above the landing point and tie the stiles off at the top.
Lock the two hinges on the downhill pair of legs at the straight position and the uphill pair at the A-frame detent, so all four feet land level on the treads. Check with a spirit level on a rung before climbing.
Fold two ladders into low trestles at matching heights, set them no further apart than the safe span of your plank, and use a proper scaffold board — never a timber offcut. Keep the platform under 2 m and never stand on the top rung of a trestle.
Face the ladder, three points of contact at all times, belt buckle inside the stiles. Hoist tools in a bucket or a tool belt rather than carrying them up in your hands. Never stand on the top two rungs of the A-frame.
Return every hinge to the folded detent, check the pins are seated, wipe mud and cement splash off the rails, and store the ladder flat or hung horizontally in a dry place out of direct sun. Do not leave it lying in a puddle of curing screed.
The 4 x 7 is the size contractors move to once a 4 x 5 or 4 x 6 stops reaching. It suits double-volume spaces, three-storey elevations and warehouse work.
Wipe cement, paint and adhesive off the rails and rungs before it cures. Warm soapy water and a cloth is all it takes; solvents attack the resin surface.
Every few months, brush dust out of the hinge plates and put a drop of light oil on the pin springs so they seat fully. A sticky pin is the most common fault on any folding ladder.
If the rails start to look whitened or hairy, the resin surface is weathering. A light coat of clear fibreglass lacquer restores it — never ordinary paint.
Straightened out as a single extension ladder it measures approximately 7.7 metres. As a twin (A-frame) step ladder it stands about 3.7 metres high, which puts a working reach of roughly 5.5 metres within comfortable arm's length for an average user.
Fibreglass reinforced polymer rails do not conduct electricity the way aluminium does, which is why electricians, solar installers and signage crews specify FRP as standard. Keep the rails clean and dry, since dirt and moisture create a conductive path. Note that a general-purpose FRP ladder is not a substitute for a certified insulating ladder tested to a stated voltage where your job specification or client HSE policy demands one.
It is rated at 150 kg to EN 131 professional duty. That figure covers the user plus tools, materials and anything else carried up, so leave a margin — a 95 kg fundi with a full tool belt and a bucket of screed is closer to the limit than it looks.
At roughly 27 kg it is manageable for one strong person over a short distance, but we recommend a two-person carry for anything longer, up stairs or on a windy elevation. The aluminium FFL47 at about 18 kg is the easier one-person ladder if weight matters more than the non-conductive property.
Same 4 x 7 geometry, same hinge system, same 150 kg rating. The FRP version has non-conductive fibreglass rails and weighs about 27 kg; the aluminium version weighs about 18 kg but conducts electricity. Choose FRP for electrical, solar and telecom work; aluminium for general building work with no live-conductor risk.
