How to Install the GJS JS8588-K10 Lock
- Check the door. Confirm door thickness and which way the door opens (left or right hand). Set the latch bevel to face the closing side.
- Mark the positions. Hold the lock body against the door edge and mark the mortise pocket. Use the template or the handle plate to mark the spindle and cylinder holes on both faces.
- Cut the mortise. Chisel or router the pocket in the door edge so the lock body slides in flush with the faceplate.
- Drill the holes. Drill the square-spindle hole and cylinder hole straight through, working from both sides to avoid splintering.
- Fit the lock body. Insert the mortise body and screw the faceplate to the door edge.
- Insert the cylinder. Slide the cylinder through the body and secure it with the cylinder retaining screw on the faceplate.
- Fix the handles. Insert the spindle, fit both lever handle plates and tighten the through-bolts evenly.
- Fit the strike plate. Close the door, mark where the bolts meet the frame, chisel the recesses and screw on the strike plate.
- Test. Check that the handle springs back, the latch clicks in, and the key throws and retracts the dead bolt smoothly from both sides.

- Turn the key (or inside thumb-turn) to throw the dead bolt when leaving or at night.
- Always push the key fully into the cylinder before turning – do not force it.
