How to Install the JS-787 MAB Lock

Tools you will need

Tape measure, pencil and try-square
Drill with wood bits (sized to the lock body and cylinder)
Sharp wood chisels (e.g. 12 mm and 20 mm) and a mallet
Screwdriver set

Installation steps

Mark the height. Mark the handle height on the door edge — usually about 1,000–1,050 mm from the floor.
Mark the lock body. Hold the lock body against the door edge and trace its outline and faceplate.
Cut the mortise. Drill a row of holes along the centre of the door edge to the depth of the lock body, then clean the pocket with a chisel.
Recess the faceplate. Chisel a shallow recess so the faceplate sits flush with the door edge.
Drill the face holes. Using the template or lock body as a guide, drill the spindle hole and the cylinder hole through both faces of the door.
Fit the lock body. Insert the body, check the latch faces the closing direction (reverse it if needed), and screw the faceplate in place.
Fit the cylinder. Slide in the cylinder and tighten the fixing screw through the faceplate.
Fit the handles. Insert the spindle, place the backplates on both sides and fix with the through-bolts or screws supplied.
Fit the strike plate. Close the door, mark where the latch and bolt meet the frame, cut the recesses and screw the strike plate on.
Test. Check the handle springs back, the latch closes smoothly and the key throws the deadbolt fully.

Daily use

Press the lever down to open; release and it springs back to latch.
Turn the key to throw or withdraw the deadbolt.
Do not force the key; if stiff, check door alignment with the strike plate.

Care & Maintenance

Wipe the handles with a soft, dry or slightly damp cloth.
Avoid bleach, acids, abrasive powders and metal polish — they damage the antique brass finish.

Re-tighten handle screws if they become loose.
