How to Install the Kenyos DAJ-39L Cylinder Lock
Tools needed: tape measure, pencil, drill, wood/metal bits, hole saw or chisel, screwdriver. For steel doors or if you are unsure, use an experienced fundi or locksmith.
- Check the door. Confirm door thickness and which way it opens (left or right hand). Set the latch direction so the bevel faces the door frame when closing.
- Mark the position. Use the paper template or the lock body to mark the mortice on the door edge and the handle spindle and cylinder holes on both faces, usually about 1 m from the floor.
- Cut the mortice. Drill and chisel a pocket in the door edge deep enough for the lock body, then recess the faceplate so it sits flush.
- Drill the face holes. Drill the spindle hole and cylinder hole straight through both faces of the door, keeping the drill level.
- Fit the lock body. Slide the lock case into the mortice and secure the faceplate with the screws supplied.
- Insert the cylinder. Push the cylinder through the lock body and tighten the cylinder fixing screw through the faceplate. Do not over-tighten.
- Fit the handles. Insert the spindle, place the lever handles and backplates on both sides and tighten the through-bolts evenly.
- Fit the strike plate. Close the door, mark where latch and bolt meet the frame, cut the recess and screw on the strike plate.
- Test. Operate the handle and key several times with the door open, then closed, to confirm smooth latching and locking.
