How to Install the KENYOS DAJ-26B Cylinder Lock
Tools you will need
- Tape measure and pencil
- Power drill with 22–25 mm flat bit and a smaller pilot bit
- Wood chisel (19–25 mm) and hammer
- Flat and Phillips screwdrivers
Step-by-step fitting
- Choose the height. Mark the lock centre about 1,000 mm from the floor on the door edge and on both faces of the door.
- Mark the backset. Use the paper template (or measure the backset) to mark the cylinder and spindle hole positions on both faces.
- Cut the mortice pocket. Drill a row of holes into the door edge to the depth of the lock body, then clean the pocket square with a chisel.
- Recess the faceplate. Put the lock body in, trace the faceplate, and chisel a shallow recess so the plate sits flush.
- Drill the cylinder hole. Drill from both sides of the door to meet in the middle – this prevents splitting the timber.
- Set the latch direction. Press in the latch, turn it so the sloped side faces the door frame as the door closes, then release.
- Fit the lock body. Slide it into the pocket and screw the faceplate firmly to the door edge.
- Insert the cylinder. Push the cylinder through, line it up with the lock body, and tighten the long fixing screw through the faceplate. Do not overtighten.
- Fit the handles / escutcheons. Fit the handle spindle and cover plates on both sides and screw through.
- Fit the strike plate. Close the door, mark where latch and deadbolt meet the frame, cut the frame recesses and screw on the strike plate.
- Test. Test the latch, handle and deadbolt with every key, with the door both open and closed.
How to Use & Care for Your Cylinder Lock
- Locking: Close the door fully, insert the key and turn towards the door frame to throw the deadbolt.
- Unlocking: Turn the key the opposite way to withdraw the deadbolt, then press the handle to open.
- Remove the key only when it is back in the upright (vertical) position.
- Lubricate the keyway every 6 months with graphite powder or a dry PTFE lock spray. Avoid cooking oil or heavy grease – they attract dust.
- Keep spare keys safe and have duplicates cut from an original key, not a copy.
- Clean the finish with a soft damp cloth. Do not use abrasive powders or harsh chemicals.
- Never force a stiff key. Check that the door is not dropped or the strike plate misaligned – adjust the hinges or strike first.
