Product Overview

The Kenyos LCE-09J cylinder lock is the replaceable key barrel that sits inside a mortise door lock. The key turns a cam in the middle of the cylinder, which throws and retracts the lock bolt. Because the cylinder is a separate part, you can swap it in minutes with a screwdriver, which makes it the quickest and cheapest way to restore security to a door.

It follows the standard euro profile shape used by most mortise locks sold in Kenya, so it suits house main doors, bedroom and office doors, shop doors, steel security doors and aluminium or UPVC doors that take a euro cylinder. A key operates it from both the outside and the inside.

How to Measure Before You Buy

  1. Open the door and find the cylinder fixing screw on the edge of the door, in line with the keyhole.
  2. Measure from the centre of that screw to the outer face of the cylinder (outside side).
  3. Measure from the centre of the screw to the inner face (inside side). For example 35 mm + 35 mm = a 70 mm cylinder.
  4. The cylinder should stick out no more than about 3 mm beyond the handle plate on each side. Too long is easier to attack; too short may not reach the cam.
  5. Not sure? Bring your old cylinder to our Rongai or Tuala branch and we will match it.

How to Install / Replace the Kenyos LCE-09J

Tools needed

  • Phillips (star) screwdriver
  • Tape measure
  • Your new Kenyos LCE-09J and keys

Removing the old cylinder

  1. Keep the door open so you are not locked out while working.
  2. Unscrew and remove the long fixing screw on the door edge, in line with the keyhole.
  3. Insert the old key and turn it about 10–15° (around a quarter turn) so the cam lines up with the cylinder body.
  4. Pull on the key gently — the cylinder slides out. Wiggle the key slightly if it catches on the cam.

Fitting the new cylinder

  1. Insert a new key into the Kenyos cylinder and turn it slightly so the cam sits flush inside the body.
  2. Slide the cylinder into the lock case from the outside, with the fixing hole facing the door edge.
  3. Line up the hole with the screw opening, then refit the fixing screw. Tighten firmly but do not over-tighten, as this can bind the cam.
  4. Turn the key both ways from each side, with the door open, to check the bolt throws and retracts smoothly.
  5. Close the door and test again. Keep two keys in daily use and store the spares safely.

Care & Maintenance Tips

  • Lubricate the keyway every 6–12 months with graphite powder or a dry PTFE lock spray. Avoid oil and grease, which collect dust.
  • Do not force a key that will not turn — check for a sagging door or misaligned strike plate first.
  • Clean the cylinder face with a dry or slightly damp cloth; no abrasive cleaners.
  • Use the original keys to cut copies, and keep spares away from the door.
  • On exposed outdoor doors, check the fixing screw is tight every few months.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will the Kenyos LCE-09J fit my existing door lock?

It fits any mortise lock case made for a standard euro profile cylinder. Measure your old cylinder from the centre fixing screw to each end and match that length before buying.

How many keys come with the Kenyos LCE-09J?

The cylinder is supplied with 5 keys.

Can I replace a cylinder lock myself?

Yes. With the door open, remove the fixing screw on the lock edge, turn the key about 15° and slide the old cylinder out, then insert the new one and refit the screw.

Should I change the whole lock or just the cylinder?

If the lock body and bolt work well and you only need new keys or a smoother key action, replacing the cylinder is enough and costs much less.
