1. Measure the Room Perimeter
Measure the full length around the room where the cornice will be installed.
Formula:
Total wall perimeter ÷ 3m = number of cornice pieces required
Add 5–10% extra for cutting, corners and wastage.
2. Prepare the Surface
Make sure the wall and ceiling edges are dry, clean, firm and free from dust, loose paint or oil.
3. Mark the Installation Line
Use a pencil and level line to mark where the cornice will sit. This helps keep the installation straight.
4. Cut the Corners
For inside and outside corners, cut the cornice carefully at the correct angle. A mitre box or proper cutting tool helps achieve clean corner joints.
5. Apply Adhesive
Apply suitable construction adhesive on the back edges of the cornice where it will touch the wall and ceiling.
6. Fix the Cornice in Position
Press the cornice firmly into place along the wall-to-ceiling joint. Hold until it grips properly. Nails or screws may be used depending on the installer’s method and surface type.
7. Fill Joints and Gaps
Use filler or joint compound to close small gaps, corner joints and nail/screw points.
8. Sand Lightly
After the filler dries, sand lightly for a smooth surface.
9. Prime and Paint
Apply primer if needed, then paint to match the ceiling, wall or preferred interior design.
10. Final Check
Confirm all pieces are straight, corners are neat, joints are smooth and the final finish looks clean.
