How to Install the WISTA Cylinder Door Lock 20187
Tools needed: tape measure, pencil, drill, wood chisels, hammer or mallet, flat-bit / hole saw, screwdriver and square.
- Mark the height. Mark the handle height on the door edge and both faces – usually about 1,000 mm from the floor.
- Mark the lock body. Hold the lock body against the door face and trace the positions of the spindle hole and cylinder hole. Mark the outline of the lock body on the door edge.
- Cut the mortise pocket. Drill a line of holes into the door edge to the depth of the lock body, then clean out the pocket with a chisel so the body slides in fully.
- Rebate the faceplate. Chisel a shallow recess on the door edge so the faceplate sits flush with the wood.
- Drill the face holes. Drill the spindle hole and the cylinder hole through both faces of the door. Drill from both sides to avoid splitting the timber.
- Set the latch direction. Check which way the door closes and reverse the latch if needed, so the angled side faces the frame.
- Fit the lock body & cylinder. Insert the lock body, fix the faceplate screws, then insert the cylinder and tighten the cylinder fixing screw through the faceplate.
- Fit the handles. Slide the spindle through, fit the inside and outside lever handles with their backplates and tighten the through-bolts evenly.
- Fit the strike plate. Close the door, mark where the latch and bolt meet the frame, cut the pockets and screw the strike plate in place.
- Test. Check the handles return smoothly, the latch catches when the door closes, and the key throws and withdraws the deadbolt freely.
