How to Install the WISTA 20253 MAB Door Lock

We recommend a qualified carpenter or fundi for installation. Typical steps:

1. Check the door. Confirm door thickness and that the lock body, backset and cylinder length suit your door.
2. Mark the position. Mark the handle height (usually about 1,000–1,050 mm from the floor) on the door edge and both faces.
3. Cut the mortise pocket. Chisel or router a pocket in the door edge deep enough to hold the lock body, plus a shallow recess for the faceplate.
4. Drill the handle and cylinder holes. Use the paper template or the lock body itself to mark and drill the spindle hole and the cylinder hole through both faces.
5. Set the latch direction. Push the latch in, rotate it 180° if needed, so the sloped side faces the door frame when closing.
6. Fit the lock body. Slide it into the pocket and screw the faceplate flush with the door edge.
7. Insert the cylinder. Push the cylinder through and fix it with the long cylinder retaining screw through the faceplate.
8. Fit the handles. Insert the spindle, place the handles and backplates on both sides, and tighten the through-bolts evenly.
9. Fit the strike plate. Mark where the latch and deadbolt meet the frame, cut the recesses and screw on the strike plate.
10. Test. Check the handles return smoothly, the latch clicks shut and the key throws the deadbolt fully, from both sides.

How to Use & Care for Your Lock

Daily Use

• Press the lever handle down to retract the latch and open the door.
• To lock, close the door fully, insert the key and turn it to throw the deadbolt.
• To unlock, turn the key in the opposite direction until the deadbolt fully retracts.
• Never force the key – if it is stiff, check that the door is aligned and the deadbolt is not rubbing on the strike plate.

Care & Maintenance

• Wipe handles with a soft, dry or slightly damp cloth. Avoid abrasive cleaners, bleach and solvents that can damage the antique brass finish.
• Lubricate the cylinder once or twice a year with a graphite or dry PTFE lock lubricant – do not use cooking oil or heavy grease.
• Retighten handle screws every few months to prevent wobbling.
• Keep a spare key in a safe place and avoid hanging heavy key bunches on the key while in the lock.
