How to Install Light Gauge HM-005
Tools & Materials Needed
- Tape measure, pencil and spirit level / laser level
- Fine-tooth hand saw, mitre saw or jigsaw
- Caulking gun with construction adhesive (e.g. Akfix or Sika grab adhesive)
- Drill, wall plugs and screws (for batten method)
- Timber or PVC battens, WPC clips, end trims and corner trims
- Clear or matching silicone sealant
Step-by-Step Installation
- Acclimatise the panels. Unpack and leave panels lying flat in the room for 24 hours so they adjust to room temperature.
- Prepare the wall. The wall must be dry, clean, firm and free of dust, grease and loose paint. Fill cracks and allow fresh plaster to cure fully.
- Choose your fixing method. For a flat, sound wall, use adhesive directly. For uneven or damp-prone walls, fix battens at 300–400 mm spacing using a level, then clip or screw the panels to the battens.
- Measure and mark. Measure the wall height and mark a true vertical line with a spirit level for your first panel — a straight first panel keeps the whole wall straight.
- Cut to size. Cut panels with a fine-tooth saw, leaving a 3–5 mm expansion gap at the floor and ceiling.
- Fit the starter trim. Fix the end/edge trim at the starting side so the first panel edge looks neat.
- Apply adhesive. Run adhesive in vertical beads or dots on the back of the panel (or fix clips onto battens). Press the first panel onto the wall along your marked line.
- Interlock the next panels. Slide each new panel's tongue fully into the groove of the previous one, press firmly and check level every two to three panels.
- Finish edges and corners. Fit corner and end trims, then seal open joints with silicone for a clean, professional finish.
- Clean up. Wipe off any wet adhesive immediately with a damp cloth. Avoid hanging heavy items for 24 hours while adhesive cures.
