Give your ceiling the warm, modern look of natural limed oak without the cost, weight or maintenance of timber. HM-023 is a premium heavy gauge PVC ceiling panel with a soft whitewash-grey wood-grain finish and elegant linear grooves – 100% waterproof, termite-proof and ready to install. In stock at Shabbiri Hardware, Magadi Road – Ongata Rongai & Tuala.

Product Overview

The PVC Ceiling Heavy Gauge HM-023 is a tongue-and-groove, hollow-core PVC ceiling board designed for Kenyan homes and commercial buildings. Its whitewash oak / light ash-grey wood-grain print is protected by a durable surface layer, while raised decorative grooves create a clean, linear "plank" effect that makes rooms look wider and brighter.

Being heavy gauge, HM-023 has thicker outer walls and stronger internal ribs than ordinary light-gauge PVC ceilings. The result: panels that stay straight between brandering, resist denting and sagging, and deliver a long-lasting, premium finish – ideal for living rooms, bedrooms, bathrooms, kitchens, verandas, offices, shops, hotels, schools, churches and rental units.

Installation Steps

  • Measure the room. Measure length and width of the ceiling, calculate the area (m²) and note positions of lights, fans and access hatches.
  • Mark the level line. Using a spirit or laser level, mark the finished ceiling height all around the walls with a chalk line.
  • Fix the brandering. Fix 1" × 2" treated timber brandering (or galvanised furring channel) to the trusses/joists at 400 – 600 mm centres, running at right angles to the direction the panels will run. Keep the frame perfectly level.
  • Install the wall trims. Fix PVC L-angle or edge trim around the perimeter along the level line. This hides cut edges and holds panel ends neatly.
  • Cut the panels. Cut each panel about 5 mm shorter than the room width to allow for expansion. Use a fine-tooth saw or sharp cutter for clean edges.
  • Fit the first panel. Slide the first panel into the wall trim with the groove side facing the wall. Fix through the tongue into every brandering using nails, staples or screws – fixings are hidden by the next panel.
  • Continue panel by panel. Push each new panel's groove firmly onto the previous tongue so joints close tightly, then fix through the tongue. Check alignment regularly.
  • Cut out for fittings. Mark and cut openings for lights, fans and hatches before fixing the affected panel.
  • Fit the last panel. Cut the last panel to width, slide it into the opposite trim and secure. A small bead of adhesive or silicone can be used where fixing is not possible.
  • Finish & clean. Install cornice if desired, remove the protective film (if any) and wipe the ceiling with a damp cloth.
  • Pro Tips: Store panels flat and out of direct sun before installation. Run panels parallel to the main light source (window) for the best look. Allow a small expansion gap at all ends – PVC expands slightly in hot weather. Do not place halogen or hot lamps in direct contact with the panels; use LED fittings.

How Many Panels Do I Need?

Formula: Ceiling area (m²) ÷ 1.49 m² per panel + 5–10% waste.

    Example: Room 4 m × 3.5 m = 14 m² → 14 ÷ 1.49 ≈ 9.4 → add 10% waste ≈ 11 panels.
