The Waterproof Shade Net 100% — 400 GSM Green (50m × 3m) is the heavy-duty end of the shade-net range. Where a 70% or 90% agricultural net is an open knit that filters sunlight but still lets rain drip through, this fabric is a tightly woven, UV-stabilised HDPE base finished with a waterproof coated face. The result is a single material that blocks 100% of direct sunlight and sheds rainwater — the reason it has become the default choice for car park shades and carports across Nairobi, Rongai, Karen, Kiserian and Ngong.
At 400 grams per square metre it is roughly three to four times the weight of a standard shade cloth. That extra mass buys three things that matter in Kenyan conditions: tear strength at the fixing points, resistance to the high-UV load at Nairobi's 1,700 m altitude, and enough stiffness that a properly tensioned roof does not drum or flap in Rongai's afternoon winds.
Supplied as a single continuous 50-metre roll, 3 metres wide, giving 150 m² of usable fabric. The 3 m width suits typical car-park bay spans and pergola bays with minimal wastage, and panels can be run side by side with a down-slope overlap for wider structures.
100% shade factor stops direct UV, protects vehicle paint and dashboards, and drops the temperature under the canopy noticeably compared with an open-weave net.
The coated face turns the net into a rain roof. Install with a fall and water runs to the low edge instead of dripping through onto cars or seating.
HDPE with UV inhibitors resists the embrittlement and colour fade that destroys untreated netting within a season or two at high altitude.
Lock-stitched construction means a clean cut edge does not unravel. Trim to size on site with a sharp blade or hot knife.
400 GSM carries tension across eyelets, purlins and cable runs far better than lightweight cloth, which is where most shade roofs fail first.

A waterproof shade net is only as good as its frame and its tension. Work through these steps in order — most premature failures come from skipping step 2 or step 4.
Measure the structure and divide it into 3 m wide runs to match the roll width. Add 150 mm at each end for wrapping and fixing, and 100–150 mm for every side-by-side overlap. Example: a 9 m × 6 m car park needs three panels of 3 m × 6.3 m — about 19 m off the roll, plus overlaps.
Set the frame so the finished surface slopes at at least 10–15° in one direction (a mono-pitch), or as a hip/pyramid draining to the edges. Water must always have somewhere to go. Use galvanised steel or treated timber posts on concrete footings; a 100% net catches wind like a sail, so brace the frame and do not undersize the posts.
Roll the net out flat on clean ground, mark with chalk and cut with a sharp utility blade against a straight edge. A hot knife or soldering iron seals the cut edge and is the better option on the coated face. Cut with the coated side facing up so you can see the finish, and keep the coated side outward (facing the sky) when you install.
Fold a 40–50 mm double hem along every edge that will carry tension and stitch it with UV-resistant polyester thread, or sandwich the edge between timber battens. Fit brass or stainless eyelets at 400–600 mm centres. Never run a bolt or hook straight through unreinforced fabric — it will tear out in the first storm.
Attach the top (high) edge along its full length, then pull the net down toward the low edge and fix the two side edges working from the top down. Tension evenly and firmly — the surface should be drum-tight with no slack pockets. Slack fabric ponds water, flaps, and abrades itself apart.
Where two panels meet, lap the upper (higher) panel over the lower one by 100–150 mm so water runs across the joint, never into it. Stitch, heat-weld or clamp the overlap with a batten. Running the overlap the wrong way is the number-one cause of leaks.
A 150 m² roof sheds a lot of water very quickly. Fit a gutter, a drip edge or a splash channel along the low edge, or aim discharge onto paving or a soakaway. Without this you will scour the ground and undermine your own footings.
Because the fabric passes no air, leave an open gap at the eaves or a ridge vent so heat is not trapped under the canopy. Trim loose ends, seal every cut with a hot knife, and cap exposed bolt heads so they cannot chafe the fabric.
Check tension after the first two weeks — new fabric relaxes slightly — and then every six months. Wash with water and mild soap; never use solvents, bleach or a pressure washer at close range. Clear leaves and debris from the low edge so the run-off path stays open.
